…for telling people who think Ontario should be toadying up to the party line and praising the oil sands in Alberta (halleluja) to go and bite themselves!

A study by the Calgary-based Canadian Energy Research Institute says Ontario enjoys the lion’s share of oil sands benefits outside Alberta.
However, McGuinty said Monday that any benefits to Ontario were more than offset by the soaring loonie, which he calls a petro-dollar.
He says the high dollar, up from 67 cents in 2003 to around parity with the U.S. greenback today, has “knocked the wind” out of Ontario’s manufacturing and export sectors.
McGuinty says given a choice between a rapidly growing oil and gas sector in the West or a lower dollar, he’d take the lower dollar.
I’m beginning to believe that the recent (short form) census numbers must have gone to a certain government’s over-blown head.
Still…it’s always nice to remind Alberta that they are not the be all/end all of the Canadian federation. For a province with a population that could disappear into the Greater Toronto region with one gulp, they certainly do enjoy tossing their ego around. How long can you suffer from a petulant inferiority complex, and delay growing up? Let’s watch Alberta try and set the record, shall we…?
One Liberal sticks it in the bullseye…only to have another reveal that a Liberal staffer was responsible for the Vic Towes “vikileaks” scandal that took up so much air time in the past few weeks.
Why oh why would someone try to scupper any momentum the Liberal Party has gained over the last few months by proceeding with such a ham-fisted, moronic attempt at cheap, American-style smear politics? Do these staffers come from Keystone-Cops-central-casting?
I won’t judge a person by a single mistake…but it couldn’t have arrived at a worse time. Two steps forwards, eight steps sideways…SIGH! You can’t afford any more mistakes, boys & girls. If anyone even contemplates the NOTION of any future amateur-hour-actions of this magnitude…we’ll be doomed to suffer another half generation of Conservative rule.
(3) ENJOYING YOUR ROBO-CALL GOVERNMENT?
Let’s take stock of the Conservative majority government to date:
a government that killed the long gun registry
a government determined to buy billion dollar warplanes in an economic climate where even the USA might not be able to afford them
a government that told the provinces not to expect any economic help in tough times
a government that smears people like Irwin Cotler and claims it’s simply “free speech”
a government that digs for dirt on opposition members — and uses the military as its unquestioning bitch — when one of its own ministers is backed into a slimy corner
a government that will happily suck up to China for pandas, while possibly getting involved in dirty election tricks worthy of Putin’s Russia…who said Communism was dead?
Well Canada, we seem to have elected the government we deserve: a complete gong show! I hope we’re in one piece to see what the end game will be…
…but you’ll forgive me for feeling despondent.
